What is the interActive Banner?

Description
The interActive Banner is a dynamic and interactive Java®-based control that you display on your website to showcase several "views" of your products and services. The interActive Banner rotates through a set of views defined by you, in a random or sequential order, thus giving your products and services maximum exposure. Each view is dynamically displayed in the banner even if the visitor of your website sits "idle" on one page and never "refreshes" the browser. Additionally, the interActive Banner gives your visitors control over the banner, allowing them to pause, go forward, or go backward in the sequence of views (this feature can be extremely useful since people often "just miss" something that they briefly saw in a banner, but failed to click on in time). The interActive Banner is perfectly suited for online-shopping or e-commerce enabled websites that contain a large number of products and services. The interActive Banner helps to give all of your products and services maximum exposure.

  1. Unlimited "view" support - There is no limit to the number of "views" that you can display through the interActive Banner. Even if a visitor only sees one page of your site and never "refreshes" the browser, the interActive Banner will dynamically display an unlimited number of views.
  2. Highly-optimized for performance - The interActive Banner has been highly optimized to be lightweight. The fully functional java applet is only 9K in size. Also, unlike traditional graphic banners that load the entire graphic file at once, the interActive Banner only loads the initial graphic up front. It then loads the rest of the graphics in the "background" while the user is busy reading or viewing the current frame.
  3. Colors and fonts - You have complete color and font control of the banner. This includes image background color, text background color, title color, title font, copy color, copy font, link color, and link font control.
  4. Product sequence - Control the order in which your products are displayed. Currently, you can choose "sequential" and "random" order. We will be adding more sequence algorithims in the future, so stay tuned.
  5. "Smart" Navigational buttons - The visitor of your website can scroll forward, backward, and pause/un-pause the banner by using the smart navigational buttons in the lower right-hand corner of the banner. This ensures that they never miss something of interest to them. You, the webmaster, can opt to programmatically disable this feature if you prefer (this would give the interActive Banner a more traditional look of an animated graphic banner).
  6. Banner size - You can size the banner to any dimensions (468 X 60 is the standard size of banners, but if you have larger graphics or have creative uses for interActive Banner, then you are given that flexibility).
  7. Image auto-sizing - To use the interActive Banner, you specify a list of images and text to display. The interActive Banner automatically resizes and retouches the images so that they look presentable within the banner.

Why we developed it
We developed the interActive Banner as a solution to one of THE biggest problems on many online-shopping websites: limited product exposure. Most websites are able to feature only a handful of products at a given time. They do this because (1) they only have a a small amount of space on a web page, and (2) they don't want to slow down their site with too many fancy pictures of products. The interActive Banner allows you to showcase as many products as you wish, in the order that you define, with minimal impact on website performance (it's less than 9K in size, smaller than many regular graphic banners).

  • Unlike regular graphic banners that get loaded every time the user refreshes the browser, the interActive Banner's Java® code only downloads once per session. This means that every time your visitors click to another web page on your site, they will see your product showcase (in the interActive Banner) very quickly since the applet code was already loaded on the first page.
  • Works even if visitor is behind a firewall (Due to the security-related restrictions built into the Java® environment, many applets fail when programmers do not handle cases of tightened security such as firewalls.
